Michelle & Jeff // Laguna Beach, CA

From the rose covered aisle to the open air reception, Michelle & Jeff’s classic wedding at the Montage Hotel in Laguna Beach was an event to remember. It definitely helps when you have an all-star vendor team including Jessica Claire behind the lens, Jeannie Savage running the show, and Nisie on florals. We had an absolute blast working alongside this team to make Michelle & Jeff’s big day as stunning and memorable as possible. Thank you, Michelle & Jeff, for bringing us on board. Congratulations and we wish you both the very best in your new life together!!

Beverly & Nelson // Laguna Beach, CA

We began the day with traditional Chinese tea ceremonies at the homes of both sets or parents. When the groomsmen arrived at the first location, the bride’s parent’s home, they were greeted outside by all the bridesmaids.  Per tradition, the groomsmen (including the groom) were directed through a series of “games” to gain access to the bride. This hilariously involved everything from the guys performing a little song and dance for the girls to the guys dressing up as girls and using wax strips on their legs! Those are some serious hoops to jump through! In the end though, I think Nelson would agree it was all worth it when he finally laid eyes on Beverly for the first time that day.

After the tea ceremonies, both parties headed over to the Ritz Carlton to finish getting ready, perform the first look and get into all the pre-ceremony pictures. The ceremony itself was absolutely gorgeous, with the Pacific Ocean as its backdrop. Then everyone headed inside for the cocktail hour and reception. Overall, the whole day went off without a hitch and will doubtless be remembered by everyone who attended! However, if anyone did forget, they will have this beautiful film to refresh their memories :)

Congratulations Beverly & Nelson!!

Cecilia & Collin // Malibu, CA

We’ve never filmed at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu before, and let me just say, we’ve been missing out. Cecilia & Colin could not have picked a venue that fit them more perfectly. The huge oak tree with dozens of lights strung throughout, draping down over the ceremony. So perfect. A beautiful backdrop to a beautiful wedding.

Congratulations Cecilia & Collin!

Aimi & John // Laguna Beach, CA

We met up with Aimi & John that morning at the Renaissance Club Sport in Irvine. While Aimi did hair & makeup with her girls, John and his guys geared up for some dodge ball action down in the hotel’s gym. Unfortunately, when we got there, there no appropriate balls available. They could have used basketballs balls but I’m sure that would quickly have gotten ugly! So, they ended up shooting some hoops and then heading back upstairs to get dressed up.

Next, we all headed west out to [seven-degrees] in Laguna Beach where the ceremony and reception would be held. Once Aimi had her dress on, we wandered out back and up some terraces on the hillside to a beautiful first look location overlooking the ceremony site. After that it was the ceremony, followed by a small tea ceremony, then the cocktail hour and reception. Lighting at the reception was crazy! In a good way. The energy the whole night was absolutely fantastic and really brought the whole crowd together for one awesome night.

Congratulations Aimi and John!

Maretha & Andy // Laguna Niguel, CA

This past weekend, we had the pleasure of filming the wedding of Maretha & Andy at the St. Regis in Laguna Niguel. Upon arrival that morning, we dropped off one of our cameramen with a special camera-equipped surfboard. He rode with the groomsmen down to the St. Regis’ private beach area and was able to get some fantastic footage on Andy out on the water. Meanwhile, the rest of us were back at the hotel with Maretha, her bridesmaids, and her dog, Channel. At one point, a gift was delivered for Maretha from Andy which turned out to be a brand new, white iPhone 4 (with a special video message on it…nicely done, Andy). This gift was especially ironic considering Andy ruined his own iPhone while surfing that morning!

The rest of day was a whirlwind as we progressed from the ceremony on the Pacific Lawn to the all-white reception in the main ballroom. We’re not kidding when we say “all-white.” Maretha had the existing carpet entirely covered in white carpet and had all the wall draped white. The majority of the linens and decor were white as well with some subtle accent colors here and there. Felt like a winter wonderland almost :)

All in all, we had an absolute blast shooting this wedding and were very happy with how the SDE turned out! Congrats Maretha & Andy!

Lara & Ben // Palm Springs, CA

Walking into the lobby at The Parker Palm Springs was like walking back in time to the ’60s. Tall bright orange front doors, suits of armor, large hanging wickers chairs, a giant vintage “drugs” sign. All of this made for a unique and funky experience that was refreshingly different than the other high-end hotels at which we typically shoot. Needless to say, the more the we got to know the bride and groom, the more this hotel choice made sense. We absolutely loved their eclectic/vintage style which surfaced in everything from the reception decor to Lara’s amazing wedding dress.

Also, being that Ben himself is a noted DJ in LA, he lined up an all-star cast of DJ’s to perform at the reception, including himself (Deru), Edit, Boreta, Kraddy, and Free the Robots. Yeah, we were pretty awestruck too :)

Congratulations Lara & Ben!!

Scarlett & Stephen // Jacksonville, FL

We were honored recently to film the wedding of two amazing photographers, Scarlett Lillian and Stephen Knuth, in Jacksonville, FL. We flew into Jacksonville late the night before the wedding and were up early the next day to head over to the venue (Scarlett’s parent’s awesome house). While two of us stuck around to cover the girls getting ready, the third guy headed over to Stephen & Scarlett’s new home to capture the guys “getting ready”…a.k.a. fishing. Just when it looked like he was about leave empty handed, Stephen pulled threw and snagged a fish! Nicely done, Stephen.

Meanwhile, back at the venue house, the girls were hard at work with hair, makeup, and dresses. In fact, even Scarlett’s dog was busy putting on his tuxedo. Out of curiosity, we devised a custom harness for the dog and strapped a GoPro camera to it…you know…just to see things from his perspective.

Dog Cam

Shortly after our GoPro shenanigans, we were off to film the ceremony. They led off with a small worship set which was very cool and then the pastor took it from there. Both Stephen and Scarlett had prepared some beautiful custom vows. After the kiss and recessional, we transitioned into the cocktail hour. Not long after, it was time for the reception under the big tent in the backyard.

Overall, it was an absolutely beautiful wedding day that we all thoroughly enjoyed. It was also a pleasure to shoot alongside Gray Photography from Nashville…that team is seriously talented. You can check out their pics here.

Congrats Stephen & Scarlett!!

Pooja & Chirag // Galveston Island, TX

This was a wedding of many firsts for FortyOneTwenty! I’m sure there were more but these were the ones that stood out (in my mind, at least):

First time shooting in Texas.
First time shooting an island-themed Sangeet.
First time running through pyro-technics at a reception.

We flew into Houston late on a Thursday night, hopped in a rental car and drove down to the Texas coast…just in time to grab dinner before the last restaurant closed on Galveston Island. The next day we had a little time to kill before the Sangeet in the evening so we decided to explore the island a bit. It wasn’t long before we found ourselves watching Battle LA in a small, local theater….no surprise there if you know us well :)

Fast forward to the Sangeet that evening. As mentioned above, this was our first island-themed Sangeet. In fact, I think it was our first themed-Sangeet in general. Guests were welcomed in the entry way by giant Tiki-head statues and greeters with lays for everyone. The island decor continued throughout the ballroom courtesy of Decor One.

The next morning we arrived at Pooja’s hotel room bright and early to begin hair and makeup. As you can see in the trailer, the details on her outfit and jewelry were absolutely beautiful. Before we knew it, we were running downstairs to meet Chirag and getting setup for the barat. The DJs leading the barat (Desi Junction) were particularly awesome and we’d definitely recommend them to anybody. After the barat, we all headed up to the Promenade Lawn which featured a beautifully decorated mandat set against a scenic ocean backdrop. Once the ceremony concluded, we took advantage of the afternoon break to head back to the hotel room and recharge a bit before the reception.

At this point, we might as well cut straight to the grand-entrance because it was ridiculously awesome. With the help of Texas Lite & Pyro, Chirag and Pooja entered the grand ballroom onto a dance floor secretly ringed with huge spark fountains. As soon as they stepped on the dance floor, the whole thing exploded with 10-15 foot fountains of sparks on every side. Needless to say, it was spectacular. Even though I knew it was coming, it still freaked me out since I was so focused on following them with the Steadicam. One minute I’m focused on the bride and groom, the next I’m dodging towering infernos of sparks! After the fountains died down, they began their first dance. Then, just when you thought there were no surprises left, Chirag dips Pooja and showers of confetti explode overhead. Yeah, it was a reception to remember!

Chirag & Pooja – Congratulation and thanks so much for inviting us out to Texas to be a part of your wedding!

Allison & Michael // Los Angeles, CA

Well, the 2011 wedding season has officially started for FortyOneTwenty! I can’t think of better way to kick off the season than Allison & Michael’s classic wedding in LA. From stylish argyle socks on the groomsmen to a late night In-N-Out truck, this couple made sure their wedding was one their friends and family would remember.

While Allison and her girls prepped at her parent’s house, Michael and his guys were hard at work getting ready at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel. Once both parties were ready, they met for a beautiful first look moment in front of Allison’s grandparent’s house. The ceremony was held down the street at St. Brendan Catholic Church, which provided a stunning backdrop for this elegant wedding. The weather couldn’t have been more flawless as we pulled up to the reception site, Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica. The reception decor was no different. Some great speeches and an especially awesome groom cake made for an exceptional evening. However, the crown jewel of the night might have been the In-N-Out truck that Allison surprised Michael with as a late-night snack for everyone! Overall, this was an amazing wedding and it was such a privilege for us to be there.

Congrats Allison & Michael!!

Emily & Nick // Coronado, CA

It’s hard to go wrong when having your wedding anywhere on Coronado Island, especially when it’s a beautiful, clear day outside. Emily & Nick’s wedding was no exception. Well, the ceremony itself took place at the North Chapel in Point Loma’s NTC Promenade (which is always a beautiful venue) but that’s beside the point. The day started out on the island at the Coronado Marriott. When we first arrived at the hotel, we took a wrong turn and ended up running into Nick and his family, poolside, enjoying some breakfast looking out across the bay at the San Diego skyline. He noted that we looked a little lost and kindly pointed us in the direction of Emily’s room :)

When everyone had finished getting ready, we all headed back over the bridge and up to the North Chapel in Point Loma for the ceremony and pictures. Then it was back to the island for the reception at Breaker’s Beach within the Naval Air Station base. Overall, it was a spectacular day and we were thrilled to be a part of it. Congratulations Emily & Nick!!
